Hi everyone, I am JL, a caregiver at Excellent Higashiyama.

皆さん、こんにちは。エクセレント東山の介護士、JLです。

I came to Japan from the Philippines 2 years ago, motivated by a desire to work in elderly care. I come from a family where my grandparents raised me, so I have a very soft heart toward the elderly. That’s why I chose to work as a caregiver. Although I already worked as a private home caregiver in the Philippines, I am still amazed and curious about the culture and way of life of the Japanese people, especially regarding the elderly.

2年前、フィリピンから日本に来ました。高齢者介護の仕事に就きたいという思いがきっかけです。祖父母に育てられた家庭で育ったので、お年寄りに対してとても優しい気持ちがあります。それが介護士という仕事に就いた理由です。フィリピンでは既に訪問介護員として働いていましたが、日本の人々の生活文化、特に高齢者の方々との関わり方に、今でも驚きと好奇心を抱いています。

Initially, I was intimidated by the language—specifically the polite　language (keigo in Japanese) required for the residents—and technical care terminologies.

最初は、言葉遣い、特に入居者の方々に求められる丁寧な敬語や、介護に関する専門用語に戸惑いました。

My first few months were a blur of learning, especially with the routine care in a group home facility. But with the help of my senior coworkers and caregiving supervisor, things became easier to understand, and I was able to create a comfortable work environment. It gave me the motivation to work with compassion and dedication in every way possible.

最初の数ヶ月は、特にグループホームでの日常的な介護業務に追われ、学ぶことだらけでした。しかし、先輩の同僚や介護士のスーパーバイザーの助けを借りて、物事を理解しやすくなり、快適な職場環境を作ることができました。この経験を通して、あらゆる面で思いやりと献身を持って仕事に取り組もうという気持ちが芽生えています。

As part of the daily routine care for the elderly, we have recreational activities. Because I know how to play the guitar, I play with the elderly residents while they sing familiar songs during their younger years. Seeing them enjoy singing together gives me joy. This has created a good relationship with the elderly I care for, which had made me consider them as my second family. I am also glad that this company helped me get out of my comfort zone and further expand my experience by obtaining training certificates like Shoninsha Kenshu to improve my caregiving skills.

利用者様の日常ケアの一環として、レクリエーション活動があります。私はギターを弾くことができるので、利用者様が懐かしい歌を一緒に歌いながら、ギター演奏をしています。皆さんが楽しそうに一緒に歌ってくださる姿を見ると、私もとても嬉しくなります。 こうした関わりを通して、利用者様との良い関係が築かれ、今では第二の家族のように感じています。 また、この会社が私をコンフォートゾーンから一歩踏み出させてくれ、介護技術向上のために初任者研修などの資格取得の機会を与えてくれたことにも、とても感謝しています。

Although working as an overseas worker requires commitment, endurance, and adaptability, driven by the desire to secure a better financial future for my family back home, the support of the staff I work with and the elderly I care for has made things easier and more bearable, further strengthening my belief that this is the job I want to pursue.

海外で働くことは、故郷の家族のためにより良い経済的未来を確保したいという願望に突き動かされ、忍耐力と順応性を犠牲にする決意が必要ですが、一緒に働くスタッフやケアをしている利用者様の方々がそばにいてくれたおかげで、物事が楽になり、耐えることができ、これが私が追求する仕事であるという信念がさらに強まりました。
